In Scotland, kilts are traditionally worn at weddings or on special occasions. These garments are not only a source of national pride but also a significant symbol of family and clan connections.

Although the kilt worn by Scottish men has undergone many changes throughout its 500-year history, it still remains one of the most prominent symbols of Scottish tradition. The custom of wearing the kilt dates back to around the 1500s, when Scots originally used this attire for hunting.

In 1747, when Scotland was under English colonial rule, King George II of England issued a decree banning the wearing of kilts. However, the Scots and the wider public resisted by continuing to wear kilts and preserve their traditions. The ban was eventually lifted in 1782, and by then, the kilt had become an important emblem of Scottish identity and resistance. Today, Scottish men continue to wear kilts on special days and ceremonial occasions.

The word kilt literally means “a garment wrapped around the body.” A traditional Scottish outfit consists of a jacket, shirt, tie, kilt, kilt pin, knee-high woolen socks, ribbons, and shoes. The kilt also symbolizes strength, romance, and drama for the Scottish people.
