The term “Selfie” was added to the English dictionary in 2013, and it means “to take a photograph of oneself” or “to be one’s own photographer.” Oxford University, considered one of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, declared “Selfie” as the “Word of the Year” in 2013.

According to information, the first “selfie” was taken in 1920. The photograph featured five men who were employees of the well-known photography studio “Byron Company,” which had been operating since 1892. Both photos were taken simultaneously on the rooftop of New York’s famous “Marceaus Studio.”

Today, from celebrities to ordinary individuals, almost everyone has a “selfie” photo on social media. The word “selfie” originates from Australia. By the end of 2012, selfie photographs had become increasingly popular among young people.
